Special projects

Nakuru, 10th August 2011 – Development views of the town of Nakuru are accessible on a website nakinfo.unibe.ch . The NakInfo Local Urban Observatory of the Municipal Council of Nakuru is composed of two dozen map layers on themes ranging from scarcity of water to security and presence of schools. Development information has never been brought closer to stakeholders. The new service is designed to benefit neighbourhood groups, community based organizations and Council management, to make urban planning and monitoring more transparent and participatory. Nakuru is the first town in Kenya on which such service maps are available on-line. The map website has been developed by Flametree. More and more local authorities around the world are taking the step to make stakeholder participation easier, by making planning and operations information maps available on their websites. The new map service is operated by Nakinfo, a project under the Municipal Council with support from the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) - University of Berne.
