TERMS OF REFERENCE

Junior Developer

Flametree Systems Engineering Limited (“FT”) is an independent Kenyan ICT company. FT requires a Junior Developer to participate in web development projects and related user support. All FT’s web projects are based on state-of-the-art Content Management Systems and the Junior Developer must have knowledge and experience in this area. FT specializes in ICT for rural and urban environments with three lines of business activities:

o    Consultancy and training 

o    Turn-key projects 

o    Vertical markets solutions 

Profile:

o    Skills requirements: programming in clean, clearly commented PHP code; database administration (mySQL/PostgreSQL); design for web, CSS and templating; understanding of at least one open source Content Management System; basic image editing skills; 

o    Personality requirements: team spirit; team work; openness; 

o    Experience & qualifications: one year’s development experience with PHP and MySQL; bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent degree 

Duties: 

1.    Implement web development projects as per client or FT specifications, under the supervision of a senior FT colleague. 

2.    Contribute to developing manuals and technical documentation for web projects, under the supervision of a senior FT colleague. 

3.    Offer support services as required by agreements between FT and clients.

4.    Participate in Research and Development by identifying and analyzing web technology that may constitute business opportunities for FT. 

5.    Offer back-stopping services to FT staff members when required.

6.    Practice good time management and maintain timesheets on time allocated to projects. 

7.    Any other duties that may be required from time to time. 

8.    Report to the Technology Director.

Performance indicators: 

o    Web projects are delivered in time and as per specification. 

o    Support services are rendered to clients as per agreed expectations. 

o    Proposed web technologies that have been adopted by FT for implementation.
